The Mare Island Naval Shipyard was the first United States Navy base established on the Pacific Ocean. In August 1969, the U.S. Navy relocated their training operations from Coronado to Mare Island, California. During this era, naval sea cadets needed sure-footedness on land and at sea, and wore a specific boot style known as “swim shoes” or “coral creepers.”

Inspired by its heritage and utilitarian nature, we teamed up with Taylor Stitch to create the Mariners Boot — a reissue of this classic footwear style.  The Mariners Boot is made from Ventile duck canvas, a material developed to be comfortable under combat conditions and to help stay dry during sea rescues. Features also include our exclusive herringbone Grip Lock outsole, a gusseted tongue to ensure protection from the elements and sealed seam construction. Antique brass eyelets, nylon laces and a webbed nylon backstay with pull tab for a durable, comfortable fit.
